Sometimes I say things I don't mean literally, as kind of a habit. Last Wednesday I was helping a 10 year old girl make a skirt. It was a church project and I gladly volunteered to help by bringing in my sewing machine and helping the girl, Dimitri, a very bright child, to make her skirt.
In talking to the young woman who works with these girls every week, I said I "inherited" lots of fabric from my MIL. She asked me if MIL has passed away, and I said no. I then realized how flaky that may have sounded, but it seems I have always used that term to describe my receiving that rather large stash of material from MIL.
Perhaps I should change my habits. I hate to be misunderstood.
